The Government of Ghana has announced a plan to procure 500 new buses to support the operations of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) and improve the country’s public transportation system.

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, made this known in Parliament on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He explained that the move forms part of the government’s strategy to revitalize public transport and promote efficient movement of people across major cities.

According to the Minister, the new buses will help Metro Mass Transit expand routes, reduce overcrowding, and enhance reliability of its services. He noted that the government is committed to making public transport safer, affordable, and accessible for all Ghanaians.
The procurement exercise is expected to take place within the short to medium term, with financing and supply arrangements already under consideration.
